Are you making these 3 Big Time Mistake with your affiliate marketing?

When I first started out in affiliate marketing this is how I approached it. I Found an affiliate program that I liked,
grab my affiliate links, and plaster those links all over the Internet.

Then I waited and waited. I check my paypal account twice a day to find a big fat $0.00
this went on for weeks, then months. I became discouraged and really pissed off when I found
out what I was doing wrong.

Mistake #1. Not building a list. That’s right this was my biggest down fall. I have no doubt you have heard the adage
“the money is in the list” and in case you haven’t, now you have. Now I want you to forget that little tag line. Because the money, really isn’t in the list. If you take away just one thing from this post this is what you should remember.

The money really isn’t in your list, it’s in your appreciation of what your list actually is.

If you want to see a dramatic increase in affiliate revenue, then you need to start considering things a little differently from most marketers. You need to become more human. Treat your list like you would want to be treated. Your list isn’t a big wallet waiting for you to open it. Your list is like a garden and your the gardener. You need to till the ground, fertilize the soil, cultivate, plant and sow Pull the weeds to keep what you planted from becoming choked out. You will need to WORK.

Mistake #2. I promoted the affiliate program’s url instead of my own lead capture page.
How many of you are doing this right now? Come on be honest… I sent my hard earned traffic straight to my affiliate links and gave the product owner a ton of free leads. Of course this is great for the product owners “your welcome”, but with out capturing leads of your own you can’t sell more great products or services. You can’t Give your list any advice, tips, or incentives.

Mistake #3. I didn’t test or track my affiliate marketing. Without testing or tracking I didn’t know what was working or how well it was working. This always frustrated me and I wasted a lot of time promoting things that needed to be refined. Hence, checking paypal, twice a day to see if I made a sell.

So how do you test and track a promotion. You need two thing. I use a url rotator to test  landing and squeeze pages along with copy that I created and not the affiliate programs. Each landing
page will have a special code inserted into the html of the page so I can track hits and sales. A sale can be a sign up for a special offer, newsletter, a free e-book or video. A sale is the action
you want your prospect to take and isn’t always a cash sale.

To recap, to avoid the mistakes I made you need to build a list by giving more than you receive.
Treat your list like you would want to be treated. Promote your own lead capture or squeeze page and test and track your affiliate marketing. If you do these three things you will increase your affiliate revenue a hundred fold.

What was or is your worst affiliate mistake?
